Giggle, Giggle, Quack

Picture Book

Giggle, Giggle, Quack was a very cute story, but I think Click, Clack Moo was a bit better. I felt like the original had flowed better, but this one was still alright. Farmer Brown left his brother Bob in charge of his farm while he went on a vacation, and had warned him about Duck. Duck was a interesting duck because he could write letters with his pencil to Bob to make him believe they had movie nights on Thursday, and Pizza nights. All the animals would giggle at Bob as the story went through the week.

It is a fun, little story for kids to read and would be great as a quick calm down the class book since it is fairly short. I love the personification of the animals in the book because I think that is always really fun for kids to read. Personification in animals in my opinion is one of the big things that help lead kids into reading fantasy because it allows them to think outside of the box. Obviously, animals can not giggle and ducks can not write, but by pretending a child's imagination and creativity can grow. Books like Giggle, Giggle, Quack are the stepping stones into getting students into reading, because they can have fun with these books and learn to enjoy reading. As with most picture books the repetition is fun, but not too overdone in this book so it can still be a little bit challenging. Also, some of the vocabulary could be beneficial to students reading this like "sensitive", and "snickers."
